Rev. Dr. G. Dianne Lewis is a native of Delaware; she has resided in Atlanta, Georgia since August 2002. She is a graduate of Delaware State (College) University in Dover, Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Political Science (’84). She continued her education, and was conferred the Master of Divinity degree from Turner Theological Seminary (‘97) at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia. Her studies included Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Counseling, with minor in Homiletics and Theology. During seminary her leadership abilities led to many honorable accomplishments including Vice-president of the Student Christian League, Senior Class President (ITC-‘97), and recipient of the Josephus R. Coan Award for Ac-ademic Honors (ITC). In addition, she was inducted as member of the ITC Theta Phi National Honor Society.

Dr. Lewis continued her studies at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in 2012 she graduated from the Doctor of Ministry degree program with a concentration in “Practical Theology for Pastors, Chaplains and Clinicians”. Her dissertation entitled, “Understanding Shame-based Issues in African American Adolescent Males,” has elicit much attention from community leaders.

Dr. Lewis has served as a Pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal church for over 30 years. Her pastoral appointments include: Elizabeth AME Church (Cedar Heights, DE); Burton’s Chapel AME Church (Milton, DE); Mt. Calvary AME Church (Seaford, DE); Duresville AME Church, (Macon, GA) and Wilson Chapel AME Church, (Grove Hill, AL). Dr. Lewis has functioned within her annual conferences as: Conference Secre-tary, Annual Conference Assistant Treasurer, Trustee, Board of Examiners Instructor, WIM Vice-President, Judiciary Committee, and Ministerial Efficiency Committee.

In 2014, she completed the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Residency program at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia, there she was the first to be awarded the “2013-14 Charlie Norwood VA CPE Resident of the Year for Academic Excellence, Professionalism and Collegiality among Staff and Fellow Residents.” In May 2017, she was promoted to Chief of Chaplain Service, where she is responsible for designing, planning and implementing spiritual and religious care for more than 450 Veterans at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. She is known for her for her superb leadership and compassionate care. As well, she is a Board-Certified Chaplain with the National Association of Veteran Affairs Chaplains (NAVAC) and a member of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). She was elected as Historian of the VA National Black Chaplains Association, and ap-pointed as the VISN 7 Regional Chaplain leader for Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.

Dr. Lewis connectional service in the AME Church includes President of the International Alumni Association of Turner Theological Seminary 2013 – 2017, Secretary of the AME Commission on Chaplains (2016-20), Chaplain of the Henry McNeal Turner Chaplain Association (2016-20). Added to her credit she proudly serves as an Endorsed Federal Chaplain of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. During the 2021 General Conference she was elected to the office of President of the Connectional AME Church, Henry McNeal Chaplain’s Association. A proud honor, and opportunity to lead such an esteemed organization.

Dr. Lewis is married to the Reverend Charles A. Lewis, Presiding Elder of the Camden Alabama District, Ninth Episcopal District. She is mother to two wonderful sons Bradley and Isaac. She is the proud “mom-mom” of Jaden. She is surrogate mother to several nieces and nephews, and is known as “Lady Di,” to her family and close friends.

The pericope she keeps in mind, as she serves this present age, her calling to fulfill is “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” Colossians 3:23, 24 NIV
